Tomorrow 10 am – 5pm the 3rd annual Crafty Bastards takes place in Adams Morgan. You’ll find everything from foods, home spun yarns, aprons, soaps and various other crafts. A break-dance competition starts at 3pm, and don’t forget your commemorative squished penny.

September 24, Nikolas R. Schiller will present 8 maps of 8 locations of the 8 wards of DC. Schiller was awarded a D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities Young Emerging Artist Grant and was commissioned to produce the maps.

As required by the grant Schiller donated one set of the maps to the Library of Congress’ Geography & Mapping Division. This division of the Library of Congress boasts the world’s largest collection of maps, atlases, globes, and aerial photographs. This Sunday, the maps will be on display in Schiller’s neighborhood playground from 5 pm – 10 pm. Located between 9th & 10th and S & T streets, NW – just follow the map.

What’s so lovely about your life? Not sure? Well listen to how lovely Shaun Inman’s life is on his new EP.

Shaun has produced 3 tracks on The Lovely Life EP and they are now available online. This multi-talented designer showcases another side of his craft and delivers multi-faceted songs, layering his acoustic stylings while experimenting with “harmony and momentum.”

Realising that summer will last only one more week, I’ve starting looking forward to cooler nights, apple picking, pumpkin carving and winter wear.

Following the Head Hugger pattern in Stitch n’ Bitch Nation I created a cute ear warmer that I hope to be sporting soon.

The Restoration of George Washington’s Distillery at Mount Vernon
October 14th

In 2001, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association began a five year project to reconstruct the whiskey distillery constructed by George Washington neat the grist mill on his estate in 1797. Currently under reconstruction on its original foundation, the distillery will be one of several working reproduction buildings that interpret port-colonial agricultural industry on the grist mill site. Scheduled for completion in spring 2007.

Off the Grid: Modern Homes + Alternative Energy
October 16th

Architect Lori Ryker will discuss concepts for off the grid strategies and present two in depth profiles of projects demonstrating how ideas are developed, refined and applied to residential architectrure.

The Main Street Program as Smart Growth Tool

Since its beginning in 1980, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Program has built an impressive record of success in working with small towns and urban neighborhoods to revive commercial districts. These projects have not only boosted local economies, but have also strengthened community institutions and restored vibrant local character to communities across the country.
