It’s the Most Wonderful Time…. October 28, 2006

Filed under: Community — kellyrand @ 10:25 pm

Yes I know I’m referencing a Christmass song, but Autumn is my favorite time of the year. It starts to get cooler, the leaves change, there are pumpkin patches, apple picking, trick-or-treating.

Ahh fall.

Homestead Farm in Poolsville, MD fit the bill for the apple and pumpkin picking. They have farm animals on display as well – it really takes you back to school field trips to old MacDonald’s farm.

After picking waaaay to many apples, got my pumpkin and fell for the cider – I got my domestic goddess on and produced a funny jack-o-lantern and 2 apple pies. Did I take pictures to show off these pearls of domesticity? Nope the pies went way too fast and I have to admit I’m a little ashamed of my pumpkin. Cute as he is, he’s not up to my usual carving snuff. So I look to next year and my next post to show visuals.

Happy fall!

DAM Fest October 17, 2006

I am newly enamoured by the upcoming DAM Fest next weekend. Over 40 shows in 3 days at some of my fav hole-in-the wall venues. I have yet to check out the Red and the Black and the Rock and Roll Hotel, I see this as a great excuse to finally do it.

I like the looks of Cold War Kids, Let’s French, The English Department and The Eames Era. Too bad I can’t just pick and choose and collect ’em all – like pokemon.

Price is per venue

I got my craft on October 8, 2006

I totally scored at last weekend’s Crafty Bastards. There was so much talent and so many cool things to choose from.

Wonderland Q definitely caught my attention and helped lighten my wallet.

Whale Scarf

This scarf is so cute. I know whales don’t growl, but you can just hear this one say “grrr!”

Sewing Box

I fell in love with this sewing box, made out of a cigar box.

Inside of Sewing Box

Now all my sewing things are organized and neat and cool.

The other booth that was lucky enough to separate me from my cash was Lacey Daisy. Reconstructed clothes and applique was their MO.

Bunny Jacket

I can’t wait for the weather to turn cooler so I can sport my new duds.

I’m also sad that I now have to wait a whole year for another CB. This one was bigger and better than the last. I don’t know how they’ll keep topping themselves. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Spoilers October 4, 2006

Alright for those of you loyal readers that know me, you might want to skip this post. It contains descriptions of projects that will turn into your gift for the holiday season fast approaching or for other reasons. So if you want a surprise than move on and no lookey loos! For the rest of you enjoy my ambitious crafting and stick around to see if I can get it all done in time.

DQ’s girl – there is this lovely cowl pattern on knitty that I think would be perfect. Perhaps in an earthy green.

The newlyweds – I have been derelict in producing a wedding present. I know I have up to a year, but I still feel like a rat. The idea has been kicking around for a while but has yet to come to fruition – obtain old printing press letters of their initials and various mushy words. I’ve sceen them at Eastern Market. Arrange just so and place in shadowbox frame – to be hung or as table top art.

The Fashionista – the purse in loop d’ loop. She’ll love it. Perhaps in cream.

My only A named friend – we have this great swap deal going on as our birthdays and the holidays are pretty close to each other. She really wants a roll for her knitting needles (great pattern in Stitch n’ Bitch) and I fell in love with a purse pattern in the Happy Hooker. Viola! all parties are happy.

The ‘rents – God! They’ve been married for 30 years! Reproduce soft sketches of them now, as a companion piece to the ones they had done 30 + years ago. We should all be so lucky.

Well this is only a tenth of what I need to get done and not everyone is on here – so if you are a lookey loo and didn’t see yourself – that’s what you get!
No worries the perfect craft has yet to hit me.
