Counter Culture Festival January 26, 2007

The second annual DC Counter Culture Festival will take place this Saturday at Dr. Dremo’s.

From 4pm to 8pm enjoy an artist’s bazaar filled with local wares such as comics and art, and a couple of familiar faces will be amongst the crowd. Jon Wye of DC EcoWomen, EcoAuction fame, will be selling his belt buckles and shirts no doubt, and I like Seamonsters of Crafty Bastards fame is also slotted for a table.

After 8pm there will be music and dancing ’til the wee hours. So head out for some local flavor and get a taste of what the DC counter culture is made of.

Say What?! January 25, 2007

That’s right I said it.

Knitta Please.

Gotta love these kids from Huston, TX (I know a little West of DC) but they are just too cool for school not to mention. Knitting up their own brand of graffiti, they tag with home made goods.

From car antenna cosies to street lamp wraps, AKrylik, PolyCotN and crew put to use their unfinished knitting projects and swatches. Making a whole new genre of urban art.

Momma’s Bag January 23, 2007

Filed under: Craft — kellyrand @ 2:44 am

In my quest to try and give hand made gifts for the holidays and special occasions I came accross a cute pattern for a felted carry all. It was my first attemp at felting and didn’t trust that my HUGH knitting would felt down to something more normal.

After about 3 times in the wash, not only were my jeans really clean, I had this great bag.

My momma likes it too.

I got my craft on October 8, 2006

I totally scored at last weekend’s Crafty Bastards. There was so much talent and so many cool things to choose from.

Wonderland Q definitely caught my attention and helped lighten my wallet.

Whale Scarf

This scarf is so cute. I know whales don’t growl, but you can just hear this one say “grrr!”

Sewing Box

I fell in love with this sewing box, made out of a cigar box.

Now all my sewing things are organized and neat and cool.

The other booth that was lucky enough to separate me from my cash was Lacey Daisy. Reconstructed clothes and applique was their MO.

Bunny Jacket

I can’t wait for the weather to turn cooler so I can sport my new duds.

I’m also sad that I now have to wait a whole year for another CB. This one was bigger and better than the last. I don’t know how they’ll keep topping themselves. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
